Description: The bench mark is a flange-encased rod located along US Highway 70 near the
entrance road to Pivers Island and Duke Marine Lab, 22.00 m (72.2 ft) east of
the centerline of the entrance road, 19.10 m (62.7 ft) south of the south edge
of US Highway 70, and 6.85 m (22.5 ft) north of the north rail of the old train
tracks. The datum point is set 9 cm (0.3 ft) below ground, being the top of a
stainless steel rod driven 21.3 m (70 ft) to refusal, and encased in a 5-inch
NOS logo cap.
